Evil Dead Burn

The Evil Dead franchise has built a reputation for its intense horror, creative practical effects, and relentless pacing. Whether it’s Sam Raimi’s original trilogy or the 2013 reboot, each film has managed to deliver memorable moments that leave a lasting impression. Naturally, I went into Evil Dead Burn with high expectations, hoping for another exciting chapter in one of horror’s most recognizable franchises.
After watching the film, however, I left the theater feeling somewhat disappointed.
While Evil Dead Burn certainly delivers the brutal violence and gore that fans have come to expect, I found the overall pacing to be one of its biggest weaknesses. The story felt stretched out, and there were several moments where it seemed like the film was taking too long to reach its most important plot points. Instead of building tension naturally, some scenes felt repetitive, making the runtime feel longer than it actually was.
That isn’t to say the movie doesn’t have its strengths. The practical effects and makeup were excellent, creating some genuinely disturbing visuals that fit perfectly within the Evil Dead universe. The cinematography also helped create an unsettling atmosphere, and there were a few creative camera shots that reminded me why this franchise has remained so influential in horror filmmaking.
The performances were solid, with the cast fully committing to the intensity of the story. Unfortunately, I never felt particularly connected to many of the characters, which made it harder for some of the emotional moments to have the impact they were aiming for.
As someone who enjoys filmmaking, I also found myself paying attention to the technical aspects of the production. The sound design, practical effects, and overall visual style were all impressive, but strong technical execution alone wasn’t enough to keep me fully engaged throughout the film.
Overall, Evil Dead Burn isn’t a bad horror movie, but it didn’t completely meet my expectations. While it contains memorable moments and delivers the gore and horror fans are looking for, I personally felt the pacing dragged in several places, making the experience less engaging than previous entries in the franchise. It’s still worth watching for fans of the series, but it isn’t my favorite installment.
